Adrian Meronk’s rookie season on the PGA Tour may be ending before it begins. Meronk is leaving the Tour for LIV Golf and will compete in next week’s season-opening event in Mexico, Sports Illustrated’s Bob Harig reported Wednesday. The story was first reported by The Times of London. Meronk, 30, earned his PGA Tour card by finishing among the top 10 in last year’s DP World Tour Eligibility Ranking. The four-time DPWT winner finished second to Rory McIlroy at last week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Ranked 39th in the world, Meronk was scheduled to make his PGA Tour season debut at the Farmers Insurance…
Stillwater High golfer Grant Gudgel had just finished his first 11 holes in the final round of the 2023 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup on the Ishino Course at the Chukyo Golf Club. But he hadn’t played up to his standards. Or to the standards of PJ Maybank, one of Gudgel’s three teammates at the event in Japan. “I was four-over through seven holes,” Gudgel said. “I wasn’t the counting scorer for a long time, and my buddy, PJ, he was like, ‘Grant, come on man, we need you.’ Then I went birdie, birdie, eagle to finish to shoot an…
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian golfer Genevieve Ling failed to mount a strong challenge in the final round and was forced to settle for a share of the 16th spot at the inaugural Singapore Ladies Masters today. The 28-year-old was left to rue two costly double bogeys on the day it mattered most as she battled to a four-over 76. She finished the 54-hole tournament, which is a China LPGA (CLPGA) Tour event, on an even-par 216. After posting a solid 72 and 68 in the first two rounds, Genevieve went into the finale at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club in…
American Allisen Corpuz shot 69 in the final round of the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach, finishing at nine under overall and besting Charley Hull and Jiyai Shin by three. It’s the first career victory for the 25-year-old pro. What stuck out to you about her triumph? Josh Berhow, managing editor (@Josh_Berhow): She missed two fairways all day, which at a U.S. Women’s Open is the key to keeping yourself in it, and while she only hit 11 greens her proximity to the hole ranked 5th. But those are just stats. If you watched, she just looked so composed for someone who…
Many people are upset about the PGA Tour merging with LIV Golf. Perhaps no one more so than Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee. Chamblee has been outspoken about LIV Golf since its inception. And, when the announcement came this week that the PGA Tour was merging with the Saudi-backed league, he responded in kind. “I was hugely disappointed (about the PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger),” Chamblee said. “This is one of the saddest days in the history of professional golf. I do believe that the governing bodies … sacrificed their principles for profit.” But Thursday, Chamblee suggested that the merger might never happen.…
Center Grove feels confident heading into next week’s state finals. Who could blame them? The Trojans showed why they’re a contender to hoist the state championship trophy next Wednesday. Ranked eighth in the final Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association poll, Center Grove took care of business with a team score of 292 Thursday in the Providence Regional at Champions Pointe. It’s the seventh regional title in the last eight years for coach Matt Rodman’s squad. Freshman Nathan Springer was one of two Trojans in red numbers as he carded a 1-under-par 71 to tie for second overall individually. He…
Paris Hilinski, the Glamorous Golf Sensation Who Defends Paige Spiranac and Wants to Change the Game
Golf needs to move away from its elitist mentality and focus on appealing to a younger audience, according to the sport’s rising star Paris Hilinski. At just 19, Hilinski has bold plans for golf, both in terms of her own aspirations and how she wants to see the sport grow in the future. Hilinski, a native of California, USA, started playing golf at just 12 years old before quickly going on to win her first amateur tournament at the 2018 LoneStar Girls Invitational. In 2019, she qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship before participating in sectional qualifying for the U.S. Women’s…
A quick glance at his most recent posts shows the former Masters champion promoting EasyPost, LIV Golf’s first corporate sponsor, along with some images of the 32-year-old grinning like a Cheshire cat. This is boring, right? Absolutely not newsworthy because plenty of athletes use the power of social media for reach. But there is one account that has been providing incredible entertainment for golf fans over the last few years. We are talking about the infamous “useGolfFACTS” account. This story goes right back to Reed’s controversial drop during the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, which Reed went…
As slow play continues to be a hot topic in professional golf, more players are beginning to voice their opinions on the situation, including last week’s RBC Heritage winner, Matt Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick, who played in a final round pairing with Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay—a player whose name has been at the center of the pace of play conversation—joined Sky Sports for an interview following his victory at Harbour Town Golf Links. The Englishman, despite his well-known practice of documenting every shot he hits on the golf course, is praised for being one of the faster players on the PGA Tour. Speaking…
