Maas and Morrison each fire a 1-under 70 on Tuesday and are both tied for fifth in the individual standings.
The No. 8 Texas Men’s Golf team fired a 2-over-par 286 on Tuesday to rest in fifth place after the second round of the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club. Juniors Christiaan Maas and Tommy Morrison both registered rounds of 1-under 70 for the second straight day and are tied for fifth in the individual standings with identical 36-hole totals of 2-under 140.
In addition to Maas’ and Morrison’s efforts, Texas counted scores from sophomore Jack Gilbert (2-over 73) and junior transfer Luke Potter (2-over 73) on Tuesday.
No. 16 Alabama holds the 36-hole team lead with a two-round total of 5-under 563 (275-288), while No. 9 Illinois is second just one stroke off the pace at 4-under 564 (286-278). Notre Dame is third at 2-over 570 (287-283) and Michigan State is fourth at 3-over 571 (287-284), while the Longhorns are in fifth at 5-over 573 (287-286).
Dominic Clemons of Alabama recorded a 5-under 66 on Tuesday to move into the individual lead after the first 36 holes with a two-round total of 7-under 135 (69-66). Michigan State’s Ashton McCulloch is second at 6-under 136 (67-69), and Jonathan Griz of Alabama is third at 5-under 137 (69-68). Maas and Morrison are just five strokes off the individual lead entering Wednesday’s final round. Only 12 individuals in the 75-player field have recorded an under-par 36-hole total following Tuesday’s second round.
The Folds of Honor Collegiate concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Texas will be paired with Michigan State and No. 3 Florida State for Wednesday’s final round, and tee times will begin at 11:45 a.m. Central off the 1st tee. Golf Channel will provide live television coverage of Wednesday’s final round from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Central.
The Lineup
- Junior All-American Christiaan Maas fired a 1-under 70 for the second straight day and moved into a tie for fifth in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 2-under 140 (70-70). He was 2-over through his first 14 holes on Tuesday, before rallying to make birdie on three of his final four holes (15, 16 and 18) to finish at 1-under in his second round.
- Junior Tommy Morrison posted a 1-under 70 for the second straight day and is tied for fifth with a two-round score of 2-under 140 (70-70). Morrison registered four birdies (holes 6, 8, 14 and 17) on Tuesday.
- Sophomore Jack Gilbert recorded a 2-over 73 on Tuesday and is tied for 17th with a 36-hole total of 2-over 144 (71-73). Gilbert made an eagle on the par-five 6th hole and added three birdies (holes 4, 5 and 9) during his second round.
- Junior Luke Potter fired a 2-over 73 during the second round and is tied for 37th with a two-round score of 7-over 149 (76-73). Potter tallied three birdies (holes 1, 6 and 18) on Tuesday.
- Sophomore Ben DeLaRosa registered a 5-over 76 on Tuesday and is tied for 56th with a 36-hole total of 13-over 155 (79-76).
